Please sign the guest book at pressconnects.com/obituaries Emanuel (Manny) Saltzman of Vestal Emanuel (Manny) Saltzman passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at his home with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Nathan and Ruth Saltzman; a brother, Israel Saltzman; and a daughter, Audrey Lee. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lucy Saltzman, Vestal; and his children, Dorothea and Greg Mortensen, Springfield, Cynthia and Gary Roberson, McClean, Gloria and Heino Kolbe-Saltzman, San Francisco, Jeffrey and Barbara Saltzman, Pleasantville, N.Y., Rebecca and David Schwed, Ithaca, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Gabriela, Melissa, Madeline, Zena, Efrem, Nathan, Jeremy, Ethan, Audrey.

Manny attended Abraham Lincoln High School, Brooklyn College and Brooklyn College of Pharmacy. He was in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in England, France and Germany. Once Manny entered the work force as a pharmacist, his first job was with Whelan's in New York City. Then upon moving to Binghamton he was employed with Hamlin's, which was then acquired by CVS.

Manny retired at the age of 76 from the Mart Pharmacy, where he had a large and loyal following of customers because of his friendly and helpful personality. He was a member of Temple Israel where he and Lucy started the Couples Club, and also a member of the Men's Club. He loved to dance and was knowledgeable about history, and enjoyed keeping up with golf and tennis. Manny's most important role was being a loving and devoted father and grandfather and always being there for his family. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

Gilbert "Gil" Charles Brightsen, 72, of Lynchburg, Virginia, went to be with his Lord on Friday, February 23, 2007.

Born February 19, 1935 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late Ingrid Christensen Brightsen and Charles John Brightsen. Please sign the guest book at pressconnects.com/obituaries Earle Churchill Bowen formerly of Vestal Earle Churchill Bowen, 92, a longtime Vestal resident, died at home in Tucker, on April 11, 2007. Born March 27, 1915 in Haskinsville, N.Y., he was the only child of Ira C.

and Abbie Churchill Bowen. From 1943-1946, he served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a Radio Technician in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was one of a small team that went into Japan to set up communications before Gen. MacArthur signed the peace treaty ending World War II.

He earned undergraduate degrees from Houghton College (1936) and Cornell University School of Electrical Engineering (1948), a Master's degree from Syracuse University (MEE 1959), and a professional engineering license from New York State (1965). From 1948 until his retirement in 1995, he was employed by IBM as an electrical engineer in the testing division of Glendale Laboratory in Endicott, N.Y. His neighbors knew him as a man who could fix anything needing repair. He enjoyed singing in church and community choirs with his wife of 52 years, Belle M. Patterson (1921-2000).

More important than his achievements, to those who knew and loved him, were his gentle manner, sharp wit and love of his family and friends. His was a long life, well-lived, and he was very much loved for the gentleman he was. He is survived by two daughters, Laurel and her husband, Larry Jackson, Tucker, and April Bowen, the Netherlands; and nephew, Glenn Patterson, Canaseraga, N.Y. Donald Allen Hostetter of Owego Donald Hostetter of Owego, Presbyterian Pastor, church executive, and legendary pioneer in camping, passed away peacefully Easter morning, April 8, 2007.

Swider, 51, of Endwell, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at his home. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Virginia Swider. He is survived by his daughter, Amy Swider, Endwell. David was an IBM employee and a veteran of the U.S. Army (Military Police).

He was a classic car enthusiast, and a coin and stamp collector. He was a graduate of SUNY Oswego and was quietly generous to many charitable organizations. David loved to travel and was an avid book reader. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Sullivan, Jr. went home to the Lord and Savior at 10:34 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2007, at his home in Boca Raton, Florida. He was with his loving daughter, Linda, and a compassionate loving friend, Don Merrit. He was predeceased on April 21, 1998 by his wife of fortynine and one half years, Patricia.

He is survived by two daughters, Katherine L. Kneer and Linda A. Sullivan; and a dear friend, Don Merrit, all of Binghamton. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Robert Kneer, Karen Grove and specially close to Walter, Patricia (Richard) Zeboris; six greatgrandchildren; close friends, Jerry and Connie Collins, Paul Mikeska; and his faithful buddy and companion, who passed on April 2, 2007. Walter attended Saint Patrick's Church and was well known in the Binghamton area for his lifelong involvement as president of The Walter D.

Sullivan Son Funeral Home, Inc. Walter founded Superior Ambulance Service, Inc. in 1964 and served as president until his death. He was a member of the Broome County and National Funeral Directors Association, the American Legion, the Elks Club and the Fraternal Order of the Moose Club. Walter served in the U.S.

Hauver, 81, a lifelong resident of Weltonville, passed away on April 26, 2007 following an illness. She is survived by her children, Marilyn (Carl) Akins and Steven E. (Connie Strohl) Bauer, all of Newark Valley; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Frank) Patterson, Steven E. (Melissa) Bauer, great-grandchildren, Kristen E. Patterson and Tyler L.

Bauer. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her third great-grandchild in August. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Marion was born on July 5, 1925. in Weltonville, a daughter of the late John A.

and Helen (Cortright) Sherwood. Her husband, Richard Hauver; brothers, Collins, John and Foster Sherwood, also predeceased her. Marion was a graduate of Newark Valley High School, Class of '42, and for many years was a sales manager for Tupperware in Tioga County. She was also a longtime and devoted member of the Flemingville United Methodist Church. A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m.

on Monday at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley. Rev. Margaret Chauncey and Rev. James Willard will officiate. Interment will follow in the family plot in Hope Cemetery.

She was predeceased by mother, Lillian Baker; stepfather, Donald Baker and father, Willam Roth Sr. She is survived by husband, Douglas Kenyon daughter, Pamela and Merritt Shapley and their children, Devin and Cody; sons, Douglas and Judi Kenyon Jr.

and their children, Jessica and Doug, William and Diana Kenyon and their children, Blaine, Mitchell and Ashley, James and Michelle Kenyon and their children, Brandon and Michael; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Barb Roth, and Donald and Michelle Baker two sisters, Marjorie McGovern and Jean Wood; 12 brothersin-law and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Shirley was especially fond of her grandchildren. She enjoyed visits to Turning Stone with her friends, reading books, and visiting with her friends. Shirley worked many years at the Corner Restaurant and Baron's Inn before opening her own restaurant, The Pantry in Smithville. She also catered for many people.

She drove school bus in Greene for many years and enjoyed hosting students at her restaurant for breakfast. She was involved in many community activities and was honored in Greene, Smithville and Oxford as Citizen of the Year. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Sunday at Berean Bible Church, Greene. Pastor William Reid will officiate. Friends of the family may call Saturday from 4-8 p.m.

Born Sally Naomi Clark on July 31, 1937 in Johnson City, N.Y., to the late Robert and Anne Clark. She was also predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Jack; daughter, Sue Ellen Genniro, Philadelphia; and brother, Bill, Huntington Beach, Calif. She is survived by her son, Jeff Yoder, Endicott; daughter and son-inlaw, Julie and Charlie Ott, Wyndmoor, and son and daughter-in-law, John and Robin Yoder, Roslyn, Pa. Sally was also blessed with grandsons, Chaz Ott and Sammy Yoder; as well as granddaughter, Michelle O'Daniels; and greatgranddaughter, Karli O'Daniels. Sally graduated from Union-Endicott High School in 1955 and was married on September 24th of that year.

She worked as a housewife and mother and also as a typist and print setter for firms in the triple cities and Cherry Hill, N.J., areas. In 1986 she joined the Maintenance Department at Binghamton University and later obtained a Certified Nurses Assistant accreditation to work at Willow Point Nursing Home, retiring from there in 2001. Sally loved to play cards, cook, gardening, and bingo, and of course traveling and baseball. She also did the New York Times Sunday Crossword every week and even designed crossword puzzles herself. Several of her puzzles and original poems were published in various magazines over the years.

Sally would also appreciate mentioning that she was predeceased by her cat, "Gracie" and survived by Gracie's twin brother, who is the pain in the neck yet beloved cat, 15, and living in Endicott. Special thanks and appreciation go out to the caregivers, staff and aides at the Vestal Nursing Center, and the doctors, nurses and aides at Wilson Memorial Hospital during her many stays. Calling hours will be 2-4 p.m., Saturday, at Coleman Daniels Funeral Home at 300 East Main St. in Endicott. The family will also welcome friends after the service at 122 East Wendell St.

William Farel Mullen, 62, passed away on April 12 following a brief illness. He was born on December 16, 1944 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

His father soon became the principal of Vestal High, so most of his early life was spent in Vestal, N.Y. It was not easy being the son of the principal, but Farel, who was voted Class Clown, made the best of it. (His idea of "the best of it" was driving a car around the halls of the school.) Farel also pursued higher education and, according to one of his novels, "included in his checkered academic past are expulsions from Brown and Cornell." Mullen owned and operated The Red Lion in Endicott, N.Y., for many years. He spent his later years writing restaurant reviews and otherwise laying low in the Florida Keys. He enjoyed golf, the occasional dirty joke, and was a published author.

He leaves behind three loving sons, Cris, Andrew, and Nicholas Mullen; as well as his sister, Betsy Lynch, Tampa, Fla. He is predeceased by his parents, William Mullen and Elise Jouard. Roberts, 87, of Binghamton, went to be with the Lord Wednesday morning, April 25, 2007, at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jules Roberts. She is survived by her loving son daughter-in-law, Jules Jr. and Sharon Roberts, two grandchildren and spouses, Bill and Tina King, Michael and Karyn King, all of Binghamton; her special little boy, William Michael King; one sister-in-law, Pauline Smith, Norwich, N.Y.; several loving nieces and nephews. Pauline was a well known interior window designer in the area for many years. The family wishes to thank all her customers for their loyal support.

She will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, 150 Main Johnson City, Saturday at 10 a.m. Chaplain Betty Pomeroy will officiate. Entombment will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
