Castle builder nears 50 years I.E' on rock dream LOVELAND. O. (AP) Harold D. Andrews calls it Chateau LaRoche, and if he keeps working until next June 5, he will have spent 50 years building the rock castle. The castle, now three stories high with grey limestone walls, rises in a clearing on Andrews' two acres, about 100 feet up from the banks of the Little Miami.

River here, a few miles north of Cincinnati. He plans to add seven rooms to the nine he has. On almost any day, Andrews can be found with a pick and sledge, breaking limestone from the river bank or a nearby gorge and filling five-gallon buckets with rocks. Andrews, 88, a lean, muscular man now beginning to bow to time, has weighed 180 pounds since before he started work on the castie June 5, 1929. He came out of Oneonta in upstate New.

York in 1920 and worked as a teacher, weekly newspaper reporter and publishing house editor. The idea for his castle, Andrews said, started with a physical education class. was telling my class about the evils of drinking and smoking, even tea and coffee," Andrews said. "My seventh and eighth grade boys got together and said, 'Let's form a club where we all swear to live the way we ought They took an oath, he recalled, to live by the Ten Commandments. Out of that was born the Order of the Knights of the Golden Trail.

"We decided that knights have to have a castle," he said. When he started the castle, Andrews was teaching school, supervising several hundred Works Progress Administration workers and holding down the newspaper and publishing house jobs. "It was 26 years before I had a room ready to move into," he said. That was in 1955, and he moved in when he retired. The castle was designed after three French chateaus he saw as a student at the University of Toulouse.

It is headquarters for the Knights of the Golden Trail, which he said has about 100 members, men and boys aged 12 and older. While there usually are one or more young knights around to help Andrews with such chores as guiding sightseers, he does the castle work alone. Er Via monthly bulletin er 2. the word t- MOUNT ORAB, O. (AP) Several hundred extra dollars can be gained each year by taking the time to clip coupons, Dorothy Kattine insists.

She is willing not only to take the time to clip, but also to tell everyone about it. She publishes a monthly bulletin called "Rainbow." The bulletin one of several with nationwide circulation is designed for refunders, shoppers who want to cash in on offers manufacturers use to induce consumers to buy products. The bulletin can tell a reader how many box. tops of a specific laundry soap are needed to get a refund. "Depending on how serious you are about it.

I'd say you could get back anywhere from about $25 to $800 a year in cash or free gifts things like stuffed animals for children, dishes, toasters and what have you," she said. The serious refunder needs her newsletter, Kattine said, because "nobody can keep up with all the offers otherwise." The average person, through magazines and newspapers, runs across 15 to 20 refund offers each month, she estimated. On the other hand, her bulletin averages about 200 new listings each month, she said. The bulletin also gives refunders the opportunity to swap coupons, box tops, side panels, labels or whatever they need to get $1 back. The possibilities are almost limitless.

Offers from Procter Gamble Co. are so varied that she devotes an entire section of her bulletin to that company alone. 'Arr Many of her readers save labels and box tops simply in anticipation of a manufacturer's offer. "I know there are people who have whole rooms full or even a basem*nt full of labels so they'll be ready for any refund offer that comes along," she said. "The worst thing that can happen.

to a refunder is throwing away a lot of this stuff and then, the next day, having a company Our come along with a refund offer." Reg. Circulation of her bulletin has approached 1.16 200 monthly. Many are sent out of state. She does most of the work herself, spending six Save days a week on what' she still considers a hobby. with She declines to discuss her earnings, but a yearly subscription is $7.

"I want to emphasize that many of my subscribers are men, so it's not only housewives who are involved in this," she said. "It usually takes fewer than five labels to get $1 up to $5 and that kind of deal appeals to almost anyone."
